Demonstrations

Apart from facilitating R&D, the Volumetric Capture system has been deployed in exhibitions, integrated with other systems and generally demonstrated its technology readiness.

IBC2019

The Volumetric Capture system is a flexible, portable and scalable multi-sensor system. Our team set it up at the Future Zone of IBC 2019.

Over a period of six (6) days the system was running full-time and volumetrically captured over 200 users.

It was also featured in IBC’s Future Zone Exclusive (at 2:35):

AVoidX

AVoidX is an AugmentedVR game where users pose their body to avoid incoming obstacles. It was made possible by using the Volumetric Capture system to blend the real and virtual worlds. More information can be found at the respective page. While it was meant to be demonstrated live at IEEE VR 2020, this was unfortunately cancelled due to travel restrictions and the conference going virtual. However, the team deployed it at a local IT conference:

Deep Depth Denoising

Apart from 360 volumetric captures, the system can also be used for multi-view stereo captures. This was the case when acquiring the data for the ICCV19 paper “Self-supervised Deep Depth Denoising”, with the setup depicted below:

Hyper360

During its development phase, the system was set up multiple times during the Hyper360 project, at project meetings, reviews and conferences. This greatly helped its maturation as actual deployments are a valuable knowledge resource for adapting, extending, improving and robustifying the Volumetric Capture system.
